As a critical thinker and avid reader of my reviews. Your internal monologue might be saying "Why is he putting Obscura over [INSERT ALBUM HERE] when Gorguts are one of the most influential and praised bands in metal to ever pluck a guitar string? And to answer that totally real thought you most definitely had since you read the quote to yourself, is that I love artists that take a tried and tested musical formula and stick to it in name alone. For example, "Trout Mask Replica" can be described as classic rock, but when comparing its musical contents to 60's rock staples like "Abbey Road" [boring album], "The Velvet Underground" [I tried to enjoy this one, but fell bored of it a couple songs in, I'll give it a second chance sooner or later], and "In The Court Of The Crimson King" [Honestly one of my favorite prog rock albums. It feels you're being judged human consciousness. 4 smileys from me!]. TMR sounds like a group of middle schoolers who only had a long weekend to practice for their schools talent show. It's abrasive and unwelcoming to casual listeners, but if you can get past the alien time signatures and the occasional song of Beefheart performing poetry it's one of the most entertaining and unique albums you'll have the pleasure of listening to.
To me, "Obscura" uncannily resembles "Trout Mask Replica" in its sound and story. Luc Lemay (🐸 in french) had the idea for "Obscura" since the early 90s, but with no record label interested in publishing it. The album sat in purgatory until 1998, baffling normies and frogs alike to this day.
Upon my first listen, the technical cacophony of the opening track "Obscura" (heh, he said it) confused me a bit, I had this expectation from internet reviewers that this album was supposed to be tech death. You know, inhumanly fast drumming, endless sweep picking, and guttural vocals. I wasn't getting any of that from this album, I heard randomly placed blasts and fills, guitars playing chords that feel extremely alien in death metal, let alone tech death, and to add onto the madness, vocals that sound better in a DSBM album. Despite this apparent bait-and-switch, it sounded really fucking good. So good in fact, I listened to it twice that day.
"it's just really good, I don't know what else I can say" -Georgia GoldSteinAre you on your lunch break? Do you want to listen to an entire album in that 30-minute period? East California (Massachusetts) grind gods, Agoraphobic Nosebleed got you covered with this 100-track trip into chaotic madness. The drums are so comically fast that upon finishing the first, and longest song on the album "Spreading the Dis-ease", your jaw will drop. The vocals are angry and screechy, the guitar is sometimes hard to hear due to the drums, and the song lyrics are some of the vilest the grindcore genre has seen to that point. Somehow bands with Scott Hull as a member have songs with some of the most awful lyrical themes known to man.
The album is best enjoyed listening to each song in succession, as a decent section of songs fade into one another. But if you take those songs out it's pretty fun to listen on shuffle.
Despite my immence praise of this album, the reason why I only rated it ☺☺☺☺ was due to its 2008 re-release (this version is on streaming platforms), which added an additional 28 songs in collaberation with Hardcore EDM artist Delta 9. I love my fair share of hardcore, as a matter of fact I unknowingly found this album through one of the EDM remix songs. I just firmly believe that you can't reinvent the wheel.
"Give it a listen if you like borderline noise and screaming about selling minority children on the black market for as low as 1,000 dollars!"
Canada, the land of Kenny vs Spenny and leftist Prime Ministers. Back in the mid 00's, when the underground was captivated by bands like Guttural Secrete and Emnity. A group of teenagers from the Ontario area going under the band name Orchidectomy would captivate the underground with some of the most furious and disgusting brutal death metal since its origins.
The albums sound is suffocating and cavernous. The drums snare sounds a lot like Brodequins "festival of death" but quieter. At the time of release, Orchidectomies drummer was 16. So that adds more insanity to an already furious and disgusting release.
This is one of my favorite metal releases for good reason. The consistent brutality alongside the absurd drumming with sickening vocals alongside it all. "A prelates Attrition" demands your full attention, the ways in which Orchidectomy are able to seamlessly switch between slams and hyper-blasting is an auditory sight to behold. Despite the album being nearly 20 years old, it still holds up as a must-listen in the genre of brutal death metal
Intergalactic Japanese brutal death metal. What more could you possibly ask for? Jenovavirus were an anomily in the brutal death metal scene due to the fact that they vanished after producing their first and only demo.
The Chezh republic is well known in the metal scene for exporting some of the strangest (and most brutal) death metal and grindcore out there, and contrastic fit perfectly into the lore of Chezh metal.
For one, the story of the album cover is pretty funny. The guys took a coloring book page and made it the cover for the original pressing, which is pretty based.
Encenathrakh's 3rd release, and their second best in my opinion (behind their self titled) Unlike Thraakethraaeate Thraithraake, the band have returned to a technical brutal style, with faster drumming and much more emphasis on intensity. Now, in comparison to their self titled, Ithate Thngth Oceate doesn't provide the nonstop intensity S/T is known for, but instead makes up for the lack of pure never-ending insanity with tight playing and a more technical, freeform-esque playstyle.
According to some site I found a Ithate Thngth Oceate t-shirt on, "Unearthing Egyptian and Sumerian culture for inspiration, ENCENATHRAKH's exceptional musicianship and creative songwriting immediately establish them as one of the premier Death Metal bands in the world. Worshippers of the dead be warned...Ithate Thngth shall rise again to wreak vengeance upon the black Earth."
Never did I imagine a band from a Muslim-shithole like Lebanon to release an EP so filthy, so misanthropic, and so batshit insane it's garnered a reputation within the metal underground as one of the most brutal and disgusting war metal releases that put the Canadian bands to shame. Damaar begin the album with an execution sample, then immediatly slice your neck with "Preaching for Mass Suicide," there is nothing to hold your hand as your ears are pelted with raw blasting fury as a man screams in agony.
"Give it your attention right now. Go to your local colleges auditorium while a theater class is in session, hook your phone up to the sound system and blast this EP. Not only will you listen to pure art, but you'll piss off coalposting hyperpoppers, it's a win/win in my book"Bet you didn't expect me to review this, huh? In my honest opinion, it's a pasable album with highly catchy songs that seem to crawl around in your head and attempt to eat away the part of your brain that says you're a man/woman in favor of virus-like radicals that make you think you're (((nonbinary))) The 100 Gecs to hyper-feminized faggot loser pipeline is quite real.
On a more serious note, there are significantly worse albums you can subject yourself to, trannycore is somehow more tolerable than zoomerbabble if you can believe that! and to this day I'll find myself singing stupid horse or 745 sticky just to DOONK on theater kids.
It's does enough to keep my attention, but it's still tranny music. so it sucksWreched, disgusting, filthy gurogrind. Released 2 years after their self titled LP, Katana Orgy hits you over the head with buzzsaw guitars, wet blasts and vomiting vocals. But unlike other goregrind bands, Jig-Ai theme their releases to gore hentai. All their albums and merch have some drawing of an anime girl with her arms ripped off, or getting stabbed in the vagina, or minced into a fine human chum.
To those unaware, goregrind is split up into 2 main categories. You have the bands that rely more on speed and blasting (Last Days of Humanity, Viscera Infest, Disgorge, Chainsaw Torture, etc) Then there are the bands that take a more groove oriented approach to goregrind (Gutalax is the only one i can name as of writing) As one could imagine by the albums i've previously reviewed, I like my music fast and full of relentless drumming. Jig-ai do not disappoint in this respect, the band is quite fast with tight and dirty drums that sound as though they've been coated in rotting filth.
Onto the album itself, Katana Orgy is 35 minutes in length and consists of 20 songs. If you ask me, that's quite reasonable for a goregrind release, it's not like Urin Festivals 50 fucking minute long album. Each song has some connection to anime and/or japanese culture as a whole, some interesting song titles include "We Are Coming For Your Cunt, Bitch", "Samuari Gay Party", "Bath In Razor Blades", and "Bonsai Bukkake." Just from reading those songtitles, it's clear that the band don't take themselves seriously. Look up live footage and you'll see the vocalist and guitarist without shirts, along with the guitarist dicking around the stage as he performs. Nothing about this band screams "hell yeah bro we're extremely brootal and take ourselves stick-up-the-ass serious" The music on the other hand is nice and extreme with little time to catch your breath. While some songs have slower sections, they don't last long and you'll immediately be thrown back into blast beat hell.
My favorite songs on Katana Orgy are: 36MMM, Shu-Lin and Katana Orgy. Mostly beause they maintain the speed and constant blasting.

I really like this band, and hope to see them live someday.Brodequin are a Tennessee based brutal death band specializing in blast beat fury. Through their near 30 year history, the band have released 4 sickening albums of vile, fast, and disgusting brutal death.
To those unaware, brutal death metal consists of two primary sub-genres. There's slam (bands like Cephalotripsy, Torture, ), and blasting brutal death (Origin, Orchidectomy, Emnity, Gargling, Chloroma, Encenathrakh, Guttural Secrete, etc). Brodequin fall firmly into the blasting brutal death style. While all of their albums are prime examples, I chose Festival of Death because it's my favorite release. All of their releases are good though.
Festival of Death consists of 11 songs and is 30 minutes of non-stop blast beats.
I've heard this album be described as Carcass worship. I don't see it in the slightest. Carcass, even back in their goregrind days, were slow. Colostomy Spacebag are furiously fast goregrind bordering on gorenoise. This project has the drummer of Haggus so that's kinda cool I guess.
I went to a goregrind show back in December, and told this one band about Colostomy Spacebag. These guys knew about Sulfuric Cautery, but not these guys? Come on!
Onto the album, it's noisey, blasty, and mincey. The drummer is able to hit absurd gravity-blast speeds and abruptly switch to groovy d-beats. The vocalist also sounds like he's vomiting, but this is expected when it comes to music like this.

It's pretty good. What happens when you get 4 bands together for a gnarly split? You get Scaphism. In medevial times, Scaphism was an execution method in which you would be strapped to a boat and force fed milk and honey, eventually leading to inescts feeding on your corpse. It’s without a doubt a horrible and brutal way to go, making the name perfect for a New Standard Elite release.
The 4 bands on this split are Delusional Parasitosis, Ecchymosis, Dissevered, and Bleeding in that order. Delusional Parasitosis (brutal death metal from the United States) start the split and their sound is so goddamn filthy and disgusting. The first thing you’ll notice is the bands drummer, since he’ll go batshit insane on the kickdrums. It no joke sounds like machine gun fire, and to my knowledge it’s not triggered. Genuinely impressive and completely disgusting. The vocalist sounds as though hes vomiting out his organs and gasping for air. My only complaint is that the guitars sound generic. Besides that, Delusional Parasitosis absolutely crush their side of the split.
Up next is Ecchymosis, a brutal death metal band out of Thailand. They’re the most slam-oriented band on the split, but that doesn’t mean they won’t use a hefty dose of blast beats. To me, their sound is that of typical generic slam, but coated in blastbeats and grime. Definitly a unique sound to say the least. Much like your average NSE band, the drums are overpowering and coated in a thick layer of PING PING PING. Frankly, I find that brutal death metal is more percussive in its execution than something like regular death metal. It’s less riff oriented and focused more on blast beat insanity. Ecchymosis fit into this category pretty well, but also add an element of groove to their sound. My favorite song off their side of the split is easily “Grotesque Self-Mutilating Escapism”
coming up next is Dissevered, a brutal death metal band out of Laos. If Delusional Parasitosis hooked you in through sheer insanity, and Ecchymosis got you dancing with those funky blasty-slams. Dissevered are going to stop the party and force the braindead normies out, much like how I am at parties. Annoying, depressing, and a chore to be around! In all fairness though. Dissevered are nice and fast, bringing that timeless NSE blast beat BDM sound in 3 easily-digestable songs.
We’ve finally made it to the end, Bleeding are a brutal death metal band out of the Netherlands. And what a way to end the split, if you ask me. You got guitar riffs, tin can blast beats, and vomit gurgles? Sign me the fuck up, it’s a damn shame this band hasn’t released more music. Because this is probably my favorite part of the split, mostly due to how they sound similar to Gutrot.
And there you have it, a shitty review of the Scaphism 4-Way Split. If I had to rank the bands from best to worst. It’d be Bleeding > Delusional Parasitosis > Dissevered > Ecchymosis. I think each band did a fantastic job and executed some sickening blast beat bdm. Rating: ☺☺☺☺
It will melt your brainI spent like 30 minutes alone pondering how to start this review. In the course of a week, I listened to Gutrots side of this split about 5 times, trying desperately to come up with something to say.
So, Gutrot were a brutal death metal band from Detroit Michigan. For some reason, the Metal Archives describe this band as a mix of brutal death and grindcore. I don't see the resemblance to a band like Mortician or Incinerated. Gutrot are purely a brutal death band, and you can't pursuade me otherwise.
Onto the split itself (yes, this is a split) Gutrot and some other band named Dysentery (they're not awful, they just don't compare to Gutrot) concocted a beautifully brutal disaster of a split. But, for the sake of IDGAF, I'll be strictly talking about the Gutrot side.
It's very good. The snare has a nice ping to it, the guitars sound like chainsaws, and the vocals are nice and guttural. However, if you do listen to this split, look up the lyrics to each song. They're disgusting.

Gutrot are filthy in every category possible.
